Shanghai, the Oriental Paris, is the largest and most prosperous city in China. It is one of China's greatest economic and cultural centers; therefore, it is popularly seen as the birthplace of everything considered modern in China. The city rivals New York or Paris in terms of modernity; however, it also boasts a blended culture of the East and the West. As one of the most famous tourist destinations in the world, Shanghai is also famous for its historical landmarks, and modern, ever-expanding skylines.

The Oriental Pearl Tower
With a height of 468 meters, the Oriental Pearl Tower ranks the second highest structure in Asia and the fourth highest structure in the world. Located in Pudong's new Area and facing a row of buildings of variegated Western architectures in the Bund across the river, it has become the landmark of Shanghai. With Nanpu and Huangpu Bridge to its left and right sides, respectively, it looks as though two dragons are playing with a pearl. Standing on the tower and having a bird's eye view of Shanghai, it will seen as though the entire city is made of building blocks, due to the amazing creativity of the architects.
The Bund
The Bund is a significant attraction and one of most famous destinations worth traveling to in Shanghai. Fifty two buildings with gothic, Romanesque, or baroque styles line the narrow shoreline of the Huangpu River, mixing Chinese and Western architecture. It’s also the best place to enjoy the night view of Shanghai.
Zhujiajiao ancient town
Located in a suburb of Shanghai city, Zhujiajiao is an ancient water town well-known throughout the country, with a history of more than 1700 years. Covering an area of 47 square kilometers, the little fan-shaped town glimmers like a bright pearl in the landscape of lakes and mountains. Endowed with another elegant name,'Pearl Stream', the little town is the best-preserved among the four ancient towns in Shanghai. Unique old bridges across bubbling streams, small rivers shaded by willow trees, and houses with courtyards attached all transport people who have been living amidst the hustle and bustle of the modern, big city to a brand-new world full of antiquity, leisure and tranquility.
Yuyuan Garden
Yuyuan garden, which is believed to have been built during the Ming Dynastya, is a famous classical garden in south China with a history of more than 400 years. It was once famed as the “top beauty in southeast China”. The exquisite layout, beautiful scenery and the artistic style of the garden's architecture have made the garden one of the highlights of Shanghai.
Shanghai Museum
As a museum of ancient Chinese art, Shanghai Museum possesses a collection of over 1000,000 objects, about 120,000 of which are precious nationally historical works of art. Its rich and high-quality collection of ancient Chinese bronze, ceramics, paintings and calligraphy is some of the most celebrated in the world.
Nanjing Road
Nanjing road, is labeled as the busiest commercial street in China. A minireplica reflecting of the history and culture of Shanghai, it’s a striving commercial hub and a prime location for shopping, eating, amusement and sightseeing.
Xintiandi
Shikumen, aslo known as the "Stone Warehouse Gate", is traditional Shanghai architecture combined with Western and Chinese elements that appeared in the 1860s. Xintiandi is an affluent car-free shopping, eating and entrainment district of Shanghai, and is one of the best places for relaxation.
The Old City God's Temple
The Old City God's Temple (Laochenghuangmiao) is a major yet relatively inactive, Taoist temple in Shanghai. It is located in the area south of Yan'an Road on the Fangbang Zhong Road. During the Ming Dynasty, Zhangshouyue, the head of Shanghai County, dedicated a temple to the local city god. Since then, the City God's Temple has been destroyed several times and the current temple was built in 1926. During the the war of resistance against Japanese invasion during World War II, local merchants built a new City God's Temple in the Foreign Concession (between Lianyun Road and West Jinling Road). That area is now a high-rise residence building. The "former" temple is known as the Old City God's Temple. The Old City God's Temple and the enclose Yuyuan are not only famous tourist sites but also popular shopping attractions. There are boutiques, shops selling local specialties, as well as large jewelry stores, department stores and fabulous local snack restaurants to be found here.
